Hi I'm Trisha!

Welcome! So glad you have stumbled upon my site!

A little about me...

I am just like you. A teacher who believes I would change the world. I was going to do it all. Teach the roughest, toughest kids. I was going to take on all the challenges. The students that every other teacher gave up on, the kids who had bad home lives, got in fights in school, the drug addicts, the dealers, etc, etc, etc. I felt like it was my duty to save every student that administrators and teachers had given up on. I wanted these students to become there own success story. I wanted them to break through their stigma of being the poor kid, the "gypsy," the dealer, and tackle the heart of their problems. I wanted to give these kids a chance.

My second year of teaching I was given the task of teaching in an alternative school with students with autism. And I loved it! The first moment that one of my students says, "I love you," to his mother, I melted. The journey was so rewarding, yet so difficult. Learning and teaching as I went.

It was arduous and took many months of trial and error to figure these students out. From how to speak, to which behavior management techniques to use. I was tired, run down and running from crisis to crisis in between. It was tough. Unfortunately, for many special education teachers, it is the same story. We are over worked, under paid and under appreciated. Constantly running from one crisis to the next, barely keeping our head above water. Sometimes, there just doesn't seem to be enough time in the day.

So what's my offer to you? I want better for you. I don't want you to struggle. I don't want you to have to spend weeks, months, or years of trial and error to teach these students. I want to help you. I want to make it easy for you.

Believe me, I was just like you. I wondered everyday how I was going to get it all done. How was I going to get through? How was I going to keep my head above water? Where are my resources and who has time to research best practices? I still want to change the world. And I'm here to help. Stick with me. We are in this together.

I am just a teacher trying to make a difference for other teachers and for students on the autism spectrum who deserve a better education.

So... now you know who I am, time to tell me about yourself. Fill out the form below, or send me an email at theautismquilt@gmail.com.

You Rock!
